Message of Hope

Maiden Message of Hope Relay

During 2015 and 2016 we engaged with a number of schools who wanted to know how they could help and we gave the girls a project. We wanted to know how they thought we could ‘engage’ with schools and pupils in the countries that Maiden would be visiting on her world tour. We were also interested to know how they wanted to connect with Maiden, the tour, girls around the world and the project as a whole.

The Maiden Message of Hope Relay was born. The idea is very simple and we believe is very effective. A message of hope and solidarity is sent by girls in the UK to girls around the world via Maiden. The message is carried on each leg of Maiden’s world tour by two girls chosen by our supporting schools. The girls are chosen from schools at each stopover via our chosen charities.

The Message of Hope is carried around the world being passed from country to country and presented in a ceremony on the docks upon arrival at each of the stopovers.

Each girl adds a message of hope and solidarity.

Hands Around the World – HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein’s vision of ‘hands around the world’ joining together to remove barriers to girls receiving an education, was the inspiration for creating a ‘rainbow spiral’ of children’s handprints on one of Maiden’s sails. The spiral will grow as more and more children add their hand prints as Maiden makes her way around the world, finishing the thousands of hand prints.
